Wildwood Conservation Area

Wildwood Conservation Area is located 11 km west of the City of Stratford, and 7 km east of from the Town of St. Marys (MAP).

The Wildwood Beach is open for swimming!

Wildwood's 1400 hectares of land and the large reservoir attract approximately 150,000 visitors each year. The park was created when Wildwood Dam and Reservoir were completed in 1965.

Wildwood CA is open 24 hours/day from April 24 to October 18, 2009. Outside of this season, the park is open Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (closed on statutory holidays).

Day Use Area

THE WILDWOOD BEACH IS OPEN FOR SWIMMING!

Facilities

  • Picnic area with tables, washrooms

  • Playground, swimming at beach (unsupervised)

  • Food available at concession stand at marina

Shelters and Pavilions

  • Rent the Staffen's Pavilion for large or small gatherings. Call 519-284-2931 ext 434 for details.

Trails

  • 4 marked hiking/biking trails varying in length from 1.2 km to 25 km

  • All trails are multi–purpose and can be used by hikers and cyclists

  • All trail users must possess a seasonal cyclist/pedestrian pass or a daily pass receipt. Trail pass revenue contributes to trail improvement and management.

  • Dr. R.S. Murray Forest Trails: Three interconnecting trails in the forest next to campground section B, designated by colour (red, blue and green). The Blue Trail is a self-guided interpretive trail.

  • Wildwood Lake Trail:

    • 25 km in length, completing a loop around Wildwood Reservoir.

    • The north section of the trail is double track (two-way) for cyclists who prefer a shorter route. The south section of the trail is single track (one-way). On even numbered dates (e.g. June 2, 4, etc.) cyclists must travel clockwise through the south section. On odd numbered dates (e.g. June 1, 3, etc.) cyclists must travel counter-clockwise through the south section.

    • All cyclists wishing to use the Lake Trail must enter through the front gate.

    • Hikers who wish to start their walk at a different location can enter one of four other locations.

    • Some sections of the trail are “on road;” please use caution in these areas.

    • HELMETS are MANDATORY for all cyclists

  • The trails cover flat and rugged terrain with areas of steep hills, exposed roots and rocks. Plan ahead, and know your abilities as well as the areas through which you are hiking or riding.

Fishing

  • Fish from shore or on the reservoir for perch, bass and pike. A fishing dock is located near the Marina.

Boating

  • Wildwood Reservoir is popular for motorboats, water skiing, sailing, board sailing and canoeing (restrictions apply).

  • Wet and dry dock storage available for motorboats and sailboats.

  • Gas available for purchase at the Marina.

  • NO Personal Watercraft are permitted at any of our CAs.
