The Dingman Creek Weir Removal Project

Part 4 - Rehabilitating the Stream ChannelOnce the weir was removed, the river stone already placed in the creek was then shaped into a riffle pattern (see technical drawing and photos below). Although there was minimal sediment deposition in the area of the weir, some of this was excavated and spread over the built riffle to fill voids that would otherwise occur naturally.
All disturbed banks were shaped to match upstream and downstream slopes and seeded. In the winter of 2007, the north shore above the weir location was further protected using a bioengineering ‘live fascine’ treatment (pictured below).
Post Construction MonitoringThe site will be inspected following construction for structural integrity, creek changes and other general changes. Benthic and fish sampling (pictured below) will be carried out as part of the UTRCA's annual sampling program.
