The Stoney Creek Watershed

Stoney Creek begins northeast of London, near the intersection of Ilderton Road and Clarke Road in the Municipality of Middlesex Centre and flows southwest into the City of London, emptying into the North Branch of the Thames River near Windermere Road and Adelaide Street. The creek drains a watershed of approximately 38 square kilometres.

Did you know?

Stoney Creek was not named after the town of Stoney Creek, near Hamilton, Ontario. It was named after the Rev. Mr. Edmund Stoney, the first Methodist Minister in London Township. Edmund Stoney was born in Ireland, emigrating to Canada in 1818 and taking up land in the south half of the 6th Concession in London Township. Ordained in 1926, he preached in several southwestern Ontario communities, and had six children with his wife, June Long. Upon his death in 1862 Rev. Stoney was buried in Siloam Cemetery, on the north side of Fanshawe Park Road, on the very edge of the Stoney Creek watershed.
