Did you know?Stoney Creek was not named after the town of Stoney Creek, near Hamilton, Ontario. It was named after the Rev. Mr. Edmund Stoney, the first Methodist Minister in London Township. Edmund Stoney was born in Ireland, emigrating to Canada in 1818 and taking up land in the south half of the 6th Concession in London Township. Ordained in 1926, he preached in several southwestern Ontario communities, and had six children with his wife, June Long. Upon his death in 1862 Rev. Stoney was buried in Siloam Cemetery, on the north side of Fanshawe Park Road, on the very edge of the Stoney Creek watershed. |
